Vals AI is seeking a Clinical AI Safety Expert to bridge the gap between mental health expertise and machine learning. In this remote-friendly contract role, you will analyze how Large Language Models (LLMs) handle sensitive human interactions, ensuring that AI responses are safe, empathetic, and clinically sound. You will act as a human safety layer, refining the 'vibe' of AI conversations to prevent harm in high-stakes scenarios.

Impact and Methodology

Instead of traditional programming, you will use your clinical judgment to build the evaluation frameworks that guide AI development. Key tasks include:

• Model Auditing: Reviewing AI dialogues to identify subtle risks or clinical inaccuracies.
• Framework Design: Creating the scoring rubrics and benchmarks that define 'high-quality' AI behavior.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working with AI researchers to document complex edge cases and improve model reliability.

Who You Are

You are a licensed mental health professional (LCSW, LMFT, Psychologist, or MD) who is excited by the rapid pace of AI innovation. You don't need a background in software engineering, but you should have a rapid ability to master new concepts and the skill to translate clinical nuances into structured data that helps AI systems improve their conversational safety.
